Beijing denies reports Chinese ships are secretly selling oil to North Korea

Just two weeks ago, Trump credited China for its help in the USA -led pressure campaign against Pyongyang, including support for three U.N. Security Council resolutions this year - the latest last week - over the North's nuclear and missile tests. "There will never be a friendly solution to the North Korea problem if this continues to happen", he said.

The U.S. Treasury Department last month sanctioned six North Korean shipping and trading companies and 20 of their vessels, and published photos of what it said was a North Korean vessel on October 19 possibly transferring oil to evade sanctions.

China has commented on reports alleging that it exports oil to North Korean by saying that Beijing " completely and strictly" implements United Nations trade restrictions recently adopted against Pyongyang.

The report has claimed that Chinese ships had transferred oil to North Korean vessels about 30 times in October.

The satellite pictures even show the names of the ships.

"Oil is going into North Korea".

"We have evidence that some of the vessels engaged in these activities are owned by companies in several countries, including China", the senior official said, adding that oil is vital to the regime and its military, while coal exports have been a primary means of generating revenue.

The US-drafted resolution bans the supply of almost 75 percent of refined oil products to North Korea, puts a cap on crude deliveries and orders North Korean nationals working overseas to be sent back by the end of 2019. It was reportedly the second consecutive month China didn't export diesel or gasoline to North Korea.

Trump said on Twitter that China had been "Caught RED HANDED,"adding that he was "very disappointed that China is allowing oil to go into North Korea".

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's nuclear program has led to UN sanctions including ones on oil

Asked at a regular briefing whether Chinese ships were illegally providing oil to North Korean ships, Chinese Defence Ministry spokesman Ren Guoqiang reiterated that China, including the military, strictly enforced United Nations resolutions.

"The situation you have mentioned absolutely does not exist", Ren said at a regular media briefing, without elaborating.

The satellite images appear to identify the ships.

It was not immediately clear what prompted Trump's tweet, or if he was accusing China - the North's main ally - of directly violating sanctions targeting Pyongyang.

Robert Kelly, a professor at Pusan National University in South Korea, told the UK Telegraph China was capable of surreptitiously sending oil to Kim Jong-un.

"The Chinese side has conducted immediate investigation".

Instead of going to Taiwan, however, the vessel transferred the petroleum to a North Korean ship, the Sam Jong 2, and three other non-North Korean vessels in global waters in the East China Sea, they said.

In another tweet, the president mocked Vanity Fair for apologising to his opponent from the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton, over a satirical video that suggested ways for her to spend her now ample free time. He also claimed Anna Wintour, a supporter of Ms Clinton during the election, was "beside herself in grief" and "begging for forgiveness". "Get over your mummy issues". Little did it know the president himself would weigh in.
