Satellite Images Reveal New Iranian Military Base near Damascus

Satellite images have revealed what experts say is a new Iranian missile base in Syria, the sign of Tehran's efforts to enhance its military presence on Israel's northern border.

ImageSat identified the two white hangers visible in the pictures are used for housing short and medium-range missiles.

Coons said tensions in the broader region supported the idea of more funding for Israel, citing the ongoing war in Syria and Iran's recent use of a stealth drone. Other buildings, including warehouses and an apparent headquarters, are visible as well. According to the Fox report, the images show several tall silos, which could be used to store missiles.

Hardline Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman downplayed the latest revelations.

In response to the Syrian missile barrage over Israeli territory, the air force launched a second strike hitting around a dozen Syrian and Iranian targets and reportedly destroying some 50 percent of Syria's air defense system.

Earlier this month, the IDF shot down a drone belonging to Iran that entered Israeli airspace in the Golan Heights. The Israeli planes were met with a barrage of missiles fired by Syria, one of which hit an F-16 jet that had a crew of two.

"Countering Iran is not one of the coalition missions in Syria", General Joseph Votel, the head of U.S. Central Command, told the House Armed Services Committee on Tuesday. Moreover, Israel can negotiate with the USA and Russian Federation to expand the buffer zone in southwest Syria where Iranian-backed forces aren't allowed to operate.

Senator Lindsey Graham said Iran is testing President Donald Trump and warned Israel was preparing to start a war in southern Lebanon over an Iranian-backed Hezbollah rocket factory.

Neither the USA nor Europe saw the impending danger from the Iranian nuclear deal, i.e. making the Regime seem like a reasonable player that could be trusted, and neither seems to have a comprehensive strategy to address Iran's expansionism.
