Cork, Enniscorthy, Arklow, the greater Dublin area and eastern counties of Leinster are the main areas still affected by outages. The ESB has said crews are restoring power "where it is safe and possible" to do so. I am not touching the ground by the way, the snow is so compact here.

It's been said a lot over the past few days but still applies, stay safe out there and don't make any unnecessary journeys.

The country's roads were largely deserted as the public heeded advice from the Government not to venture outside until the snow storm passed. Munster and Leinster will be hit the hardest by this disruptive snow and temperatures will range between -1 to -4 degrees.

Motorists are already being urged to avoid all non-essential travel and if they must drive, to take extreme care.

She warn "serious significant falls of snow". Lowest temperatures of 0º to -3º with sharp frost is expected in many places.

"It is making conditions slightly easier in certain parts. Easterly winds will be moderate to fresh, but still strong along the east coast".

The National Emergency Co-ordination Group met in Dublin on Tuesday and warned the public to prepare for an exceptional weather event.

Showers will be more scattered across the north-west of the country.

There will be widespread frost overnight on Sunday.

It said that the high tides will occur at approximately 6am and 6pm tomorrow and at 6am on Saturday.

"That warning may be updated during the night again".
