Jerusalem football club changes name to honour Donald Trump

The Israeli top flight club have not announced if the name change will be permanent.

In a statement posted to their Facebook page, the club said it was making the change after Trump's historic decision to move the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, officially recognizing the city as the capital of Israel in the process.

And in a way to say thanks, one of the city's most popular football teams, Beitar Jerusalem, announced they will now be known as "Beitar Trump Jerusalem". A 2016 documentary film called "Forever Pure" documenting these events won three awards at the Jerusalem Film Festival of that year, as well as a nomination for the Gold Hugo award at the Chicago International Film Festival. President Trump has showed courage, and true love of the Israeli people and their capital, and these days other countries are following his lead in giving Jerusalem its rightful status.

'We have the greatest love for the President!'

The European Union as a whole has come out against U.S. President Donald Trump's official recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel.

VIRAL: Officer puts man in chokehold inside Waffle House after prom
It is unclear whether the officer, who has not been identified, remains on duty while police investigate his use of force. According to ABC 11 , Anthony Wall was at the Waffle House on May 5 after escorting his 16-year-old sister to prom.

However, the name change does face some obstacles, the Post reported.

Beitar have competed in the UEFA Champions League on five occasions and in the UEFA Cup or UEFA Europa League eight times but have never reached the group stages in either competition.

And there are more roadblocks facing the club, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Beitar, one of Israel's top soccer clubs, is now in second place in the premier league. In 2013, Beitar recruited two Chechen Muslim players, sparking a protest among some fans, some going as far as boycotting the club, and holding protests calling for the team to remain "pure". The club has tried, unsuccessfully, to quell their fans' racist behavior, having faced several fines and sanctions for the supporters' behavior.
