Apple Has Over 50 Self-Driving Cars On Public Roads Now

Apple's object-detection software.AppleThese permits enable autonomous vehicles to legally drive on California roads as long as they have a driver behind the wheel ready to take over at the first sign of trouble.

Didi Senior Communications Director Liang Sun was quoted by The Wall Street Journal Monday as saying that the company had been testing autonomous vehicles in closed internal environment for a while and it is finalising its plans to begin USA road trials which will be made in a "prudent and safety-first" manner.

San Francisco: With 55 self-driving cars and 83 drivers, Apple now has the second highest number of self-driving cars in the U.S. state of California where autonomous vehicles are being tested. In January, Apple increased its self-driving auto fleet ninefold to 27 and to 45 by April this year.

The company's fleet is growing faster than a hipster's beard; from three in April 2017 to 45 in March this year, and now 55 (which we assume are programmed to constantly remind their flannel-shirted occupants how cool, hip and trendy they're being).

Security researchers discover critical flaw in PGP encryption that reveals plaintext
The second attack involves attackers being able to use their knowledge of parts of an email to crack its encryption. The flaw, named EFAIL, reportedly affects both sent and received messages, including past correspondence.

The self-driving vehicle permits issued by California's DMV require a safety driver to be on board to grab the wheel at any time.

The California DMV also told Mac Reports that Apple has not applied for a completely driverless testing permit, which the DMV started issuing in April.

So far, Apple has not applied for a driverless vehicle permit, according to Mac Reports.

Apple's 55-vehicle fleet is the second largest in California, behind only Cruise, a self-driving company owned by GM, which sports a 104-strong fleet. Tesla had slightly more drivers than Apple at 92, but fewer vehicles at 39. The fact that it's adding more cars to its fleet suggests that this new line of thinking is working out for it. Apple has, again, expanded Its fleet of autonomous cars in California. In June that year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said Apple was working on developing the autonomous-driving software, which will be added to existing auto models rather than building a self-driving vehicle from scratch.
